SaharaTrek

Coast to Kasbah

Day 2 Includes

Day 2: Essaouira

EssarouiraThe sun beings to rise as you're still in the air over the Atlantic, having breakfast, and approaching the coast of Africa. It's not much longer now before the water gives way to land and you cross onto the coast of Morocco where you'll be landing at Casablanca's Airport Mohammed V. It's a comparatively small airport by international standards and perpetually under construction, but easy to get around. Follow the "Transit/Correspondence" signs for your flight to Agadir.

EssaouiraUpon your arrival in Agadir you'll go through customs and immigration.  As soon as you exit the customs area you'll see your driver waiting for you holding a sign with your name and/or SaharaTrek.  It's a three hour drive up the coast road to Essaouira, along the way you'll pass by some of the best surfing spots in the continent.  You'll be driven to your accommodations and the rest of the day is yours to enjoy and explore.

Essaouira is a walled city perched on the rocky shores of the Atlantic. Designed by a European hired by the Sultan, it was once a major trading port, but with its sheltered long white sand beach, quaint fishing harbor, and excellent seafood, its now known as a tourist destination.  Its bright, airy, narrow streets of the old citadel with the whitewashed buildings and blue doors, Essaouira seems strangely out of place.  Its laid back atmosphere is in stark contrast to other cities in Morocco, and along the wide white beach are luxury hotels and nightlife
