Day
2: Essaouira
You
will be landing at Casablanca's
Airport Mohammed V as the sun
rises over Africa.
When you get to the
terminal, follow the "Transit/Correspondence" signs up for your flight
to Agadir.
Upon
your arrival in Agadir you'll go through customs and immigration.
As soon as you exit the customs area you'll see your guide waiting for
you holding a sign with your name and/or SaharaTrek. It's a two
hour drive up the coast road to Essaouira, along the way you'll pass by
some of the best surfing spots in the continent. You'll be driven
to your accommodations and the rest of the day is yours to enjoy
and explore.
Essaouira
is a walled city perched on the rocky shores of the Atlantic. Designed
by a European hired by the Sultan, it was once a major trading port, but
with its sheltered long white beach, quaint fishing harbor, and excellent
seafood, its now known as a tourist destination. Its
bright, airy, narrow streets of the old citadel with the whitewashed buildings and blue doors, Essaouira seems strangely out of place. Its laid back atmosphere is
in stark
contrast to other cities in Morocco, and along the wide white beach are luxury
hotels and nightlife. |
