Day 5: Marrakech, Casablanca, Fez
Breakfast at your accommodations and check-out before your driver takes you to the
Marrakech train station for the 4-hour train ride to Casablanca with first-class tickets included.
Casablanca is Morocco's primary financial and manufacturing city, long on industry, short on tourism with the sights being covered in only a few hours. Bogart's Casablanca is only found in Hollywood, with the real Casablanca being more similar to Detroit. Upon your arrival in Casablanca, a guide/driver will meet you and take you on a tour of the city including inside the ornate Hassan II Mosque, the largest in the world and the only Mosque in Morocco open to non-Muslims. When the interior of the Mosque is closed to non-Muslims on Fridays for prayer, you'll tour the breathtaking exterior. You'll see some other sights around the city such as the Pasha's palace (now city hall), the gates of the royal palace, the Nouvelle Medina, Place des Nations Unites (United Nations Square), Anfa district, Arab League Park, and the art deco district built by the
French during their occupation. Then transfer to the Casa Voyagers train station for the 4-hour train ride to
Fez.
A driver will meet you upon your arrival at the Fez train station and transfer you to your
accommodations for the evening. Located in the Medina of Fez, the
riad puts you right in the middle of the action. Feel free to
venture out a little. If you remember your steps and don't stray
far you won't get lost while you get your first taste of this medieval
city.
